I can’t believe it’s almost May! It seems like just yesterday I was sharing Spring outfits with you, and here we are with summer right around the corner already. Where does the time go?
I can’t say I love this time of year just because it gets SO incredibly hot inFlorida, where I live, but I do look forward to all of the summer festivities like pool parties, festivals, beach days, picnics, and summer BBQs. I also always love celebrating all of the holidays around summer, like Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, and the 4th of July.
Last year we spent Memorial Day weekend in Blue Ridge, Georgia, which I highly recommend, by the way (check out my post here), but this year we are staying put in Palm Beach, and I’m so excited to get in some R&R, spend some time in the sun, and have some much-needed fun with friends!
With that said, I wanted to share some Memorial Day outfit ideas with you guys in case you plan on celebrating too! What to wear for Memorial Day weekend
- Go Patriotic or go home! Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those who have served in the military, so don’t be afraid to get decked out head to toe in red, white, and blue.
- Keep it casual!Memorial Day weekend typically marks the unofficial start of summer, which means you’ll likely be spending a lot of time outdoors. I would opt for casual clothing that you’ll be comfortable in outside, especially if you live in a hot and humid climate like me in Florida.
- Comfort is key! It starts warming up around Memorial Day weekend (especially for me), so I recommend wearing more practical clothing made of lightweight, breathable materials like cotton or linen. Denim is definitely a no bueno!
- Don’t forget about sun protection! The sun is no joke during summer (especially in Florida, where I live), so it’s important to wear sunscreen at all times when outdoors. It also wouldn’t hurt to wear a straw hat and sunglasses for additional coverage!

There is no such thing as too much red, white, and blue on Memorial Day weekend, and that applies to the beach too! This red two piece swimsuit from Aerie is absolute perfection. If I can dress it up or down and mix and match it with different outfits, I consider that a huge win!

Nothing screams summer quite like gingham! I think this romper from Anthropologie is SO fun and would be perfect for a summer bbq or any Memorial Day weekend party. Pair it with some of your favorite accessories, like a straw hat and straw bag, and you’re ready to head into summer in style.

If you’re headed downtown or to a friend’s house for a Memorial Day party, don’t be afraid to get festive! Show your patriotic spirit by incorporating a little red, white, and blue into your outfit. I think this red jumpsuit is a great option and would also work for many other holidays, including Christmas.
