1 OMAHA WORLD-HERALD Wednesday, August 15, 2001 Elkhorn Budget Faces Scrutiny BY ERIN GRACE WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER People who live in the Elkhorn public school district have a chance to weigh in on the district's 2001-02 budget. A public hearing will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the district's administration building. A regular school board meeting will follow at 7:30 p.m. Earlier this summer, school officials outlined the budget, which calls for an 11 percent increase but a 3-cent drop in the property-tax levy.

In the preliminary budget, general-fund spending would go up $1.8 million, from about $16.4 million Mist year to $18.2 million for next year. The proposed increase would go mainly toward higher teacher salaries, additional staffing, increased energy costs and extra programs such as elementary foreign language, all-day kindergarten and high school swimming. Officials also plan to add $450.000 to the cash reserve. increasing it from $750.000 to $1.2 million. Last year.

a drop in state aid caused the district to dip into the cash reserve. Under the proposed budget. Deaths and Funerals 'ANDERSON-Gerald "Jerry" ARKFELD-Michael ARNOLD-Robert O. "Bob" BAXTER-Reva BENDEKOVIC-Theresa (Cepuran) BOHRINGER-Frances C. -Mary G.
